My air conditioner is finally fixed!!! I’m going to run it all night at full blast at 18C to compensate for it being broken for two weeks.
Also, the maintenance man had a Big Bang ringtone, heh.

hongdae
I made a lot of friends/enemies last night. Some included:
- 2 people with lisps
- an angry Irish guy
- a Korean-British person
- an old drunk man
- a guy who went to school in Peoria (very near my hometown—small world, right right?)
I also noticed that somehow in the past two weeks Hongdae turned into an even bigger gathering spot for the most annoying foreigners in Korea. If I go...

After several failed attempts to stop by and fix my air con when I wasn’t home, I finally just gave my key to the director at my school so he could get the air con man over here while I was at work. And guess whaaaat? There’s something majorly wrong with it which will require another strange man to come over tomorrow morning, probably at some ungodly hour not much later than when...

i got a little scared there
James: Today... [Korean]... [gun noises]!!!
Me: Uhh what?
Mina: [draws a picture of North and South Korea] Today, come here and [gun noises].
Me: North Korea... today?!?!?!
Class: Yes!
Me: [wondering why the hell I'm sitting in my school teaching if North Korea is invading]
Mina: Yes, 1950... 6 25.
Me: OHHH oh my god. Okay, so today, but many years ago. Good.
(North Korea invaded South Korea June 25, 1950 if you didn't catch the Konglish explanation.)

for all the americans worrying about north korea
“But what did South Koreans do when North Korea recently tested the nuclear weapon and long-range missile? Nothing. The Korean media reported it around the clock, as they were obviously big news. But on the ground level, few even blinked. Even for South Koreans, the possibility of North Korea affecting their lives was too remote to care. If South Koreans do not feel any danger, there is no...

I’m assuming this is several months old, but I hadn’t seen it until tonight when it came on at a club. I have never seen people get so excited to hear a song, it was hilarious. I doubt the Koreans got it, though, hah.

There are approximately 100 different cheers for the Korean soccer team, I swear. This was from the South Korea vs. Iran game on Wednesday. It ended in a tie, 1-1.

Metrosexuality is so yesterday. The hot new trend is technosexuality.

앗싸!
My internet is still not really working, and now my air conditioner has decided to jump ship as well. I’m currently hanging out in a really awesome (and out-of-place) cafe in the neighborhood, very happy that my friend Ben discovered it. Internet, I’ve missed you!

So my internet is barely working, and tumblr seems to be running the slowest. I really don’t even know what to do with myself when I’m at home. So much for living in the most connected country in the world or whatever.

last night
Went to Hongdae. Took excessive pictures, mostly practicing the poses from asianposes.com
An Indian restaurant decided to sell alcohol on the street, so of course we bought some.
More street booze.
“Hey!”

The reasoning for his guy’s presence in our photo is a little fuzzy.
These girls sitting next to us in the park started talking to us, and we...

The Han River.. a place for walking, picnics, and boring dates. Or maybe it was just the guy :/
Pretty river, awkward girl being forced by a Korean to stand alone for a photo-op.
As if taking a boat ride down the Han couldn’t get any cheesier, there was a singer taking requests from ajummas for old love songs.

– From a Korean teacher at my school. I was actually very flattered to hear that since I love how Korean girls dress. 앗싸!

it's hard to have a bad day when you work with...
This morning I woke up, turned off my alarm, then accidentally fell back asleep. I later woke up 20 minutes before I started teaching, so I had to take a speed-shower and get ready in 15 minutes, so I was already not in a good mood. Then I get to work and my kindie boss tells me that for the second day in a row, I have to substitute for another teacher. This teacher has only been here for a...

reporters get 12-year terms in n. korea (link) →
This is maybe the scariest thing that could happen to anyone in the world. After watching so many documentaries about North Korea, the thought of being trapped there—for 12 years nonetheless—is horrifying. They would be completely different people by then. Hopefully the U.S. or Sweden can do something, but who knows now that Kim Jong Il is on some psycho power trip.

maybe the cutest girl in the world
This girl, Cecellia, in my first semester class is so tiny and adorable. She is kind of a spacehead, so if she weren’t so cute, she would probably annoy the hell out of me.
During class, she is always drawing pictures of girls, super-Asian style, in her book. Today when I was checking her homework, she comes up and hands me her book, which has a page with like six different...

sinsa-dong
Every Sunday, Tae and Ben go to Sinsa to grade essays, and I usually try to meet up with them. Sinsa is a really swank and upscale area of Seoul, with lots of cafes, restaurants, and boutiques. I love it, and it feels much more like Brooklyn than Seoul. We had a really good day and splurged on a fancy schmancy dinner.
More pics with my new cam cam:
