KL
Kuala Lumpur was a pretty good time. It was possibly the hottest place I’ve ever been in my life, but the food is beyond delicious and everything was hella cheap. I would love to see more of Malaysia.
The Petronas Twin Towers. I’ve never been so amazed by buildings.
The Kellers. There were a ton of people trying to get themselves perfectly photographed in between the towers. Nerds.
KL has got to be one of the most diverse cities in Asia, which is partly what made me like it so much. Our first meal was Indian food.
The trains were so tiny compared to the ones in Seoul.
Petaling Street, which is a shopping area in Chinatown.
The architecture is way more interesting than Seoul’s.

Chicken and pork with chicken rice in Chinatown = about $2. So so so good.

We went to the Lake Gardens and almost got attacked by wild monkeys. Joy got a video of one jumping at her, with its tiny sharp teeth gleaming, and then her running away screaming while it chased her. These monkeys were scary.

Mouse deer—the smallest hoofed animals—are a main attraction at the Lake Gardens.
Regular deer are jammed into a tiny area where you can buy bread to feed them. Sad and gross.

We went back up near the Twin Towers to walk around. It’s a really expensive shopping area, and seems to be where a ton of rich Middle Easterners come on vacation. Most of the food here was Middle Eastern, and there were so many women in burkas that it was almost as if we were in Saudi Arabia.

The average shoppers in this area. I honestly felt really uncomfortable around the women who were completely covered. Saudi Arabia’s take on Islam bothers me a lot.
In our hostel, among many other places, durians (a super stinky fruit) are not allowed. I wanted to try one, but never got the chance. We did smell them at one point, and they do smell pretty rank.
