singapore

Singapore was another really hot city with more great food.  It’s hardly Asian, though, because everyone speaks English (even if it is an almost incomprehensible version of it), there are tons of Westerners, and it just looks really Western.  Just the fact that it reminded me so much of North America (but with more Asians) kind of turned me off.  I would much rather go somewhere exotic and different than what I grew up with.  Especially in Asia.

Nevertheless, it was pretty and soooo clean.

On the subway doors there were these old creepily dressed people telling you what to do.  The subway stations and trains were ridiculously nice and easy to use.  The city is also rather small, so getting around doesn’t take too much time.

Chinatown, where we stayed.

Chinese-style chicken and noodles.  This was less than $3.

You can’t do anything in Singapore.

There’s a sign that says “No sitting please”.

So many rules.

No studying at the Coffee Bean!

Orchard Road.  Pretty much Michigan Ave with palm trees.

Boat Quay

Creepy.

Singapore has a ton of areas that are packed with food stalls.  You go around and order what you want and they deliver it to your table.  The food is really cheap and good.

We ordered chili crabs, which is apparently a popular Singaporean dish.  The crabs were huge.

Joy and the chili crabs.  This is all just two crabs.  We got so much food.

The aftermath.

Clarke Quay, a popular and expensive nightlife area.

The $9 drinks we all had to get.

Hookah.

Me and Karissa.

This souvenir shop used to be an opium den.

Getting ready for Bali at the Duty Free store…

Sidenote for anyone who might travel around Asia: the Singapore airport is pretty swank.  We ended up spending a few hours there because we got bored of the city and had to check out of our hostel.  We found out too late that there’s a movie theater, swimming pool, and a ton of random stuff to do.  Just FYI in case you ever have a layover there.  I also have a Singapore subway card with like $10 on it because—long story short—I’m an idiot.  So if any of you people happen to ever be going there, let me know and I’ll give that to you.
