happy white day

March 14th is White Day in Korea, which is when the boys who received chocolates and gifts from the girls on Valentine’s Day go all out and buy their girl a ton of shit.  So in all my classes I was like “Soooo who’s celebrating White Day tomorrow?”  And all the boys pretended to be cool enough to have a girlfriend and were like “Me no money.”  Then I had this ten year old girl, who I love, tell me this boy keeps telling her he loves her and he’s going to give her a ton of chocolate tomorrow and she just feigns interest in him to humor him.

Then in the later classes, the kids are a little older and I love making them feel super awkward.  In our book we’re reading, this boy Jack tells his sister Annie not to kiss a dinosaur (she really likes dinosaurs) and in all three of my classes, no one wanted to say “kiss”.  We were reviewing what happened and I asked, “So what did Jack ask Annie not to do?”  These two girls who knew the answer just turned red and one girl just said, “Uhhh… k…i…s…s.”  ”Um what’s that?  I don’t know what that means.”  ”UGH Teacherrrr!”  ”What?  What is it?”  She whispered, “Kiss”.  ”Ohh, okay.”  Then in another class which is ten boys and two girls, the boys were so squirmy and grossed out.  ”Teacher, this book is a little yuck.”
