The only sort-of Fourth of July/American things I did today were:
- ate bacon
- ate a cheeseburger
- wore red, white, and blue
- saw literally one firework. I met a friend for dinner in Itaewon and as we left the restaurant, we heard the fireworks from the Army base. So we ran to a bar with a rooftop, where the fireworks were nicely blocked by another building.
- drank beer on the street. Oh wait.. you can’t do that in America ^_^
While it’s nice that there is some kind of attempt to celebrate holidays from home here, it’s not like the real thing at all. I’m not looking forward to Thanksgiving—it’ll be my third consecutive one away from home. :(
Since the real 4th is a Sunday, we are celebrating today. Once I get out of bed, I’m throwing on some red, white, and blue and heading way way down to the end of line 4, south of Incheon to celebrate at my friend Coleen’s. Samgyeopsal will not be the same as grilled hamburgers, there’s no swimming pool to hang out by, and no fireworks here would compare to the ones you can see at home. It’s also supposed to rain all weekend. :/ Miss you a little bit, America!
My weekend starts in 30 minutes.
I would be really excited, but I think I’m getting sick. The second I’m back in Seoul, my immune system gets attacked by the pollution and germy children. -_- Saturday I’m checking out H&M with a couple coworkers, and Sunday is White Day, which I am rather indifferent about. My big plan for the day is to finally buy a pillow. Exciting.
